Executive Chairman of Ojokoro Local Council Development Area, Hon. Hammed Idowu Tijani on Saturday distributed food items as palliatives to more than one thousand people in the LCDA.

This, according to the Council boss is to compliment efforts of the Lagos state government in bringing succour to the people in the wake of rising cost of food items in the country.

In his keynote address at the occasion, Hon. Tijani disclosed that his administration is aware of the challenges being faced by the people in the context of current state of Nigeria’s economy.

“It is on this note food items such as rice, beans and spaghetti are being distributed to the people freely for the second time within few months” he stated.

He also elucidated further, saying “The main motive of the programme is to complement the efforts of the Lagos State Government, under the leadership of our ever proactive Governor, Mr. Olushola Babajide Sanwo-Olu who has introduced various initiatives in terms of palliatives, such as the Sunday community markets across the state where food items tagged “Ounje Eko” are being sold at subsidized prices for the people at the Lagos Food Hub, in Idi-Oro Mushin.

Hon Hammed Tijani, fondly called “HID” by his admirers further said “It is in recognition of this persistent hardship that “Mr Governor” once again directed  that this Special Food Palliative programme should come up simultaneously in all the 20 Local Governments and 37 Local Council Development Areas in furtherance to previous intervention programmes in the past, especially as Muslim faithfuls are preparing towards Eid-Fitir celebration.

It would be recalled that Hon. Tijani’s administration had earlier distributed several food items to the people and empowered over seventy (70) women and youths who have undergone skill acquisition training through the Department of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) in this LCDA.

There was also provision of free basic health care in all our six Primary Health Care (PHC) centres, to our people for seven days which include treatment of malaria; high blood pressure screening (with free medication where necessary); diabetes screening; treatment of cough and other minor illnesses.
